At Oak Ridge Whitetail Adventure we know that a hunting preserve is not for everyone and we respect all of our hunting partners and their choices. The decision we made to convert into a high fence hunting preserve was based on the following items.
Because of our small size (178 acres) we were unable to control the harvest of young immature animals. Our hunters would pass up 1½ or 2½ year old bucks just to see them harvested by one of our neighbors. (The average age of a deer harvested in Ohio is 1½ years.) At ORWA we strive to only harvest animals that are 3½ years and older allowing them to mature to a higher potential. If everyone could afford the thousand acre ranches of South Texas there would not be a need for high fences.
Controlling access had became a major issue. As more and more land gets developed hunters are losing their traditional areas to hunt. When they seek out new areas they do not always obtain permission and it is very disheartening to have another hunter walk in and upset your only one or two days to hunt each year. Or to hit a nice buck only to have him run into someone else’s area and get “finished”. ORWA will guarantee that you or your group are the only hunters on the preserve for the duration of your hunt.
We understand that not everyone can afford to hunt on a preserve but when you consider the additional items required to “do it yourself” how much more expensive are our hunts? Equipment, fuel, seed, lime, fertilizer, stands, scents, calls, and time off work or away from the family are just a few of the additional items required. How about considering the money you will put into a lease, club dues, or property acquisition?
The concern of disease continues to grow each and every year in both the native herds and the preserve herds. At ORWA we are committed to only stocking animals that have come from tested herds. These Nature Agripark herds have been monitored for TB, Brucellosis, and CWD for at least five years reducing the risk within our preserve to the minimum possible current levels. We are also dedicated to the continuing research and monitoring of these diseases and will voluntarily test a percentage of all animals harvested from our hunting preserve.
Oak Ridge Whitetail Adventure would like to thank you for taking time to consider hunting with us. Whether you decide to hunt a preserve, hunting lease, or public land please remember that hunting is a privilege we enjoy throughout the United States and we need to stay united as hunters to keep these rights.
